1. OYY is recruiting an intern for event management

Are you full of ideas and enthuastic about realizing them in event management, marketing and communications? The Student Union is now offering an internship position in the greatest and most spectacular festival of the year.

Internship consists of a variety of management tasks related to Vulcanalia, the opening festivities of the academic year. Tasks vary from, for instance, designing marketing and communications to corporate collaboration and the practicalities of the festivities, such as licensing issues.

2. If you have challenges in life, you can go and talk with university chaplain

You can go and talk confidentially with the university chaplain if there is something that worries you, eg. relationship problems or your world view. You don’t have to belong to Evangelical-Lutheran congregation in order to get help from him. You find the chaplain in the room TF101 and you can always enter when the door is open. 3. A questionnaire about the accessibility of the universities

A part of The Ministry of Education and Culture funded OHO! project is examining the accessibility of higher education. The accessibility of higher education illustrates how the environment and the operational culture of higher education institutions support the students’ participation and equality. 4. The Coolest Teacher Ever 2017 is Matti Niemelä

This year the Student Union has awarded its Coolest Teacher Ever Award to Matti Niemelä who works for the degree programme of chemistry.

With the Award the Student Union wants to pay attention to a staff member who develops their work and teaching.

1. OYY’s anniversary week February 19th-24th

The student union of the University of Oulu (OYY) will celebrate it’s 58th anniversary week on this week. There will be a lot of different kind of activities for example a free museum day for students, a dance show, and workshops. Week’s grand finale will be anniversary sitsit, Annos 58. Sitsit is a three-course dinner party and it includes its own traditions, drinking, singing and cheering.

2. Exceptions in the opening hours of the office of OYY

There have been sudden and unfortunate exceptions in the opening hours of our office lately. It is possible that this may occur again.

The reason for the unfortunate situation is the nearby renovation: bitumen vapors float from the worksite to our office causing headaches and nausea. During the worst vapors we have to work remotely. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

We aim to improve the situation so that we don’t have to close our office suddenly like this in the future.

Our office, however, answers the phone (+358 50 407 9623) and the e-mail (toimisto@nulloyy.fi) normally even when the office is closed.

3. Primeminister Sipilä is visiting at the University of Oulu

Primeministeri Juha Sipilä is visiting on Monday 26th of February at the University of Oulu. He is hosting an event Kohti seuraavaa sataa. For more information  (in Finnish): http://www.oulu.fi/yliopisto/node/51017.

5. Are you interested in improving your Finnish language skills, meeting new people and having fun at the same time?

Starting from the 22.2.2018 there will be a weekly event in Kaijonharju library from 16.45-19:00. The event’s aim is to learn/improve Finnish conversational skills. The main point of the gathering is to have fun, meet new people from different backgrounds and get introduced to the Finnish culture, while catching up few Finnish words in the process. You will be watching some parts of Finnish movies, having some discussions; in addition to taking part in various games. You are very welcome to join.

 

6. Sports evenings of the cultural section of OYY

The cultural section of OYY is focusing on sports this spring. From this page you will find out about all the events. The first event is a sports night on Friday the 16th of February. There will be nice people and Finnish Liiga hockey for you to enjoy. Bring your own snacks! Event is free. Welcome!

Exceptions in the opening hours of the office of OYY

Our office is expectionally closed today on the 13th of February. The reason is the renovation of the premises near our office. However, our office secretary answers phone and e-mail normally.

2. Welcome to OYY’s anniversary sitsit on 24th of February

Welcome to celebrate the Student Union’s 58th anniversary!

The Student Union of the University of Oulu celebrates its 58th anniversary on the 24th of February at the Aleksinkulma (Address: Aleksanterinkatu 9). The event starts with greetings at 5 pm in Aleksinkulma. The anniversary sitsit starts at 7 pm. After party is at Viihdemaailma Ilona (address: Torikatu 21-23).  Dinner ticket includes the entrance to Ilona but not the cloakroom fee (3 €).

Dress code: suit & cocktail dress

3. Falling ill during your studies?

In case you would fall seriously ill and have to be on sick leave, you should apply for the sickness allowance instead of the student financial aid. If you apply for the sickness allowance you have to be unable to study.

If you fall ill, contact the FSHS and ask a doctor’s certificate for your illness. If your studies slow down due to illness, you can apply for a maximum of 9 additional months of student financial aid.

Kela support also your rehabilitation from sickness. That means that if Kela pays you the sickness allowance, you can still complete your studies which helps you to rehabilitate from sickness and to continue your studies.

4. Keep fit! – Try fencing

Welcome to try the fencing on Monday 12th of February at 19:30–20:30 at the Linnanmaa Sports Hall (field 3). Fencing is an opposition sport in which two opponents fight using a blade. It is an athletic sport that develops stamina, balance, spatiotemporal skills and strategic thinking.

Equipment: indoor sports shoes and indoor sports clothing.
