New exchange students will get the chance to familiarize themselves with OYY and its services on Monday and Tuesday during next week’s orientation. On Monday we will be taking part in the orientation fair, during which new students have the chance to pay their membership fees and cards as well as place card orders. On Tuesday we will take part in the info-sessions.

For those unable to make the session, here is the presentation online. Below you will also find our crash course on student unions, guilds, culture and traditions.Check it out!

Important news for arriving exchange students

Welcome to all our lovely exchange students for 2013!      We have some important info for you . . .

When you arrive, one of the first things you will do is to become a member of the Student Union of the University Oulu or OYY. By joining, you will join the crew of over 12 000 students studying up to Masters level, who are entitled to student healthcare, subsidized lunches, student union services and various student discounts including 50% off national bus and railway services. You join simply by paying the 44.50 EUR membership fee and getting a student card. Click here for more info on the different cards, prices and how to place a card order.

The easiest way for newly arriving students to pay for the OYY membership fee and student card is in cash at OYY’s table at the University of Oulu’s Orientation Fair on Monday, Jan 7th from 10:00 to 12:00 in halls L7 and L8. You will get a receipt which will immediately function as proof of your student status on campus until your spanking new card arrives. If you are unable to attend the orientation, you can make the payments at the OYY Office on campus (2nd floor near Aula Lobby) during opening hours (Mon-Thu 8-16, Fri 8-14). Card payments not accepted.

Please note that you will need to come cash in hand! The Linnanmaa campus no longer has an ATM (cash machine). This means that you will need to bring the cash with you in the morning. There are plenty all around town, especially city centre. There are a few cash machines within a 5-10min walk of the Linnanmaa campus, one at the local supermarket (Kauppalinnankuja 1, 90570 Oulu, Finland) and the other in Kaijonharju shopping centre by the R-kioski (Sammonkatu 4, 90570 Oulu, Finland).
