In the event ‘What’s up in the Education’ the Vice Rector for Education Helka-Liisa Hentilä informed about the University Board’s decisions regarding degree programme renewal and about tuition fees and scholarships. The aim of the renewal is to develop the degree programmes of our university and to support the high quality of the education. This renewal will concern Bachelor level degree programmes and it means that Bachelor’s programmes will be grouped into wider-ranging wholes.
The University Board also decided about tuition fees for students outside of EU/EEA countries in international Master’s programmes at the University of Oulu. The decision is based on the fact that the Finnish Parliament has decided that all Finnish universities have to collect tuition fees from students outside of EU/EEA countries. The universities have to start collecting fees from students starting their studies in 2017. The tuition fees in the University of Oulu will be in three categories: 10 000, 12 000 and 13 000 euros. In 2017 each fee-collecting programme has to have a scholarship system that covers at least 50 % of the fees. However, the recommendation for the faculties is that the coverage is 100 %.
