Donation of 44 000 euros for recreational and mental health work for students

The Student Union of the University of Oulu has received a donation of 44 000 euros for students’ recreational and mental health work. A play about Aapo Heikkilä was performed in the University of Oulu, and the ticket proceeds were donated to the Student Union to use for the benefit of students. The play was originally scheduled to be performed as early as 2020, but due to Covid restrictions, it was finally on stage in April 2022.

OYY’s Board will make a plan for the use of the donation, and the decision will be announced later.

“The Student Union is currently running various projects to support student well-being, such as wellbeing tutoring and the Mind Care project with Vamos Oulu,” says Iikka Kokkoniemi, who is responsible for social affairs in the OYY Board. “The option is to continue existing projects, or use the donation for a completely new project.”

There is also a book about Aapo Heikkilä for sale (the book is in Finnish). It can be purchased from the OYY office for the price of 25 euros, and the proceeds of the book sales will be added to the original donation sum for the students’ benefit.

Aapo Heikkilä was played by Mika Nuojua and the play was directed by Markku Pölönen. The partners of the play are the Eija and Veikko Lesonen Foundation, Osuuskauppa Arina and Ponsse.
