The Student Union of the University of Oulu is a public-law association of approximately 12 000 students. OYY is an advocacy, educational and service organization for its members, which currently employs nine people.

The Student Union is looking for a new

Specialist of Academic affairs


for an indefinite period of employment, starting on 1st of January 2024 or by agreement.

We offer a challenging, varied and responsible job at the heart of a student organization. The work is focused on promoting education policy issues at the University of Oulu. As the Specialist of Academic affairs, you will be responsible for preparing the Student Union’s education policy issues, preparing the election of student representatives to the administration, participating in the implementation of various projects, and taking responsibility for the Student Union’s administration and cooperation with the university administration, stakeholders and student representatives. You will also be involved in drafting opinions and statements. You will advise students when they face academic challenges and support the student representatives of the administration in their activities.

In our working community, you will work closely with both the Board’s academic affairs representative and other specialists’ in the Student Union. We are a close-knit, friendly and youthful working community. As the Specialist of Academic affairs, you will develop your professional skills in a variety of ways, meet lots of interesting people and work with us to make a good life for students.

We expect you to have a university degree, a vision of a good life for students, knowledge of current education policy and knowledge of administrative processes. The specialist of Academic affairs must be fluent in Finnish and have a good command of English. We also require good interpersonal and organizational skills and up-to-date IT skills. 

Experience with lobbying and advocacy, serving as a student representative in the administration, experience in training volunteers and familiarity with the student union or student organizations would be an advantage.

The academic affairs specialist must be proactive, responsible, cooperative and able to work independently.

The basic salary is EUR 2 194,50 per month (YTES, grade III), plus any additional allowances for experience and training. The contract also includes, inter alia, sports and cultural allowances. The employment relationship will be governed by the Collective Agreement of Student Unions (YTES). Working hours are 37,5 hours per week. The job may occasionally involve working in evenings and we also offer the possibility of remote working where appropriate. The post is subject to a six month probationary period.
