OYY is looking for student representatives for the Doctoral Training committees. The following positions are available:
- 1 member and 1 vice-member in the Health and Biosciences Doctoral Training Committee
- 1 member and 1 vice-member in the Information Technology and Electrical Engineering Doctoral Training Committee
The student members of Doctoral Training Committees have an important role as the voice of doctoral students in the four Doctoral Training Committees of the University. The decisions of the Committees have a significant impact in the lives of doctoral students. The Doctoral Training Committees direct, develop and evaluate the activities of the doctoral degree programs in the specific fields of the Committee. The Committees e.g. assess admission applications, doctoral training plans and final PhD theses. Additionally, starting from 2017, the Committees are also responsible for organizing field-specific doctoral training. The Committees gather approximately once a month.
The selected student representatives are expected to collaborate with other student representatives and to also participate in the activities of the Doctoral Students’ Section. The Section seeks to influence the development of doctoral training and promote equal rights and well-being of doctoral students. The Section gathers approximately once in 1-2 months to discuss doctoral students’ points of view concerning the development of doctoral training. The task of the student representatives is to take doctoral students’ proposals and opinions forward. The Section also organizes events for doctoral students.
The student representative positions offer an excellent opportunity to participate in University decision-making and the development and quality assurance of doctoral training. The positions demand responsibility, good interaction skills and motivation towards advocating doctoral students’ interests. The applicant must be a student of UniOGS and enrolled as active for the up-coming semester. Finnish skills are considered an advantage. The Student Union offers training for the task.
In your application, please explain in your own words what is the role of the Doctoral Students’ Section at the University of Oulu, why you should be selected for the position and what you would especially like to develop in doctoral training, the position of doctoral students and the activities of the Doctoral Students’ Section.
