First Advocacy Section of the year on 26 February
How can we improve the unity of Finnish and international students at our university? And how do we act in harassment situations or in terms of developing educational offerings at our university? Come hear and discuss the topics on 26 February at OYY’s advocacy section!
The Advocacy Section is a place to hear and discuss current topics on higher education, welfare and internationalization at our university and at the national level. Any student at the University of Oulu who is interested in student advocacy can participate in the section.
The themes of the first advocacy section of the year are:
The joint section: UNIC Student Dialogues
Join us in a round table discussion related to international students’ lives. Discussion points will be on the University of Oulu, the city of Oulu, jobs, and meeting Finnish students. Come voice your opinions and experiences to different stakeholders in these areas and make a change.
After the joint section, the participants will be divided into sections on the following themes from which they can choose from:
At the Social Affairs section we will go through the University’s procedure of dealing with bullying and harassment and the just finalized procedure for disciplinary actions taken against students. The topic is useful especially for harassment contact persons and board members handling social affairs.
The Academic Affairs section focuses on current topics related to higher education in University of Oulu and national level. In addition we work with educational development themes and the University’s actions related to the development. The Topic is aimed for societies’ advocacy and education policy responsible persons.
The Internationality Section focus on current issues at the university, Finland and EU level. We discuss exchange studies as well as the everyday life of international degree students here in Finland. The section is intended for international students, board members responsible for international affairs and those interested in international student tutoring.
The Advocacy section will be held on Thursday 26 February at Tellus on the Linnanmaa campus. In the honor of our Anniversary Ball week we’ll start with cake and coffee at Tellus Stage at 16:30, and the main program begins at 17:00.
Registration helps us plan catering and possible interpretation services. If needed, the joint opening is interpreted to English, and one of the group discussions is always in English. Don’t forget to sign up by 22 February!
