Anton Kostiainen elected as the Chair of the Board for OYY!
The Student Council elected Anton Kostiainen as the Chair of the Board for the year 2024 in their meeting on 29 November. The election was unanimous.
“I am very grateful for the trust given by the Student Council. My goal is that next year we all work together and can achieve great things”, says the freshly elected Chair of the Board.
26-year-old Kostiainen is a sixth-year mechanical engineering student. In 2023, he was a member of OYY’s board, his area of responsibility being organisations. In addition to organisational cooperation, Kostiainen played a significant role in organising the opening event Hurmos’ day event. In the past, Kostiainen has worked for several years both in Konekilta and in Oulu’s Teekkariyhdistys.
The student union will already start preparing for the next municipal elections in the year 2024. Students are an important group of citizens in the city of Oulu, and the student union’s goal is to bring their views and needs forward in the decision-making even more. In addition, the work regarding the new strategy will begin next year. The current strategy is valid until 2025.
“It is important that students’ voices are heard in the city decision making and they can be seen and heard in their own way in the city life. Important themes for the students are developing public transportation, accessible possibilities for free time and planning of student apartments”, says Kostiainen.
The application period for the Board is still open until Sunday 10 December. The Board is elected in the Student Council meeting on Tuesday 12 December.
