Doctoral researcher, welcome to the Student Union!
Did you know that you can also become a member of the Student Union as a doctoral researcher? Membership is voluntary for doctoral researchers, but offers many benefits.
As a member, you can order a green student card for postgraduate students or a 24/7 campus card for €15. As a new benefit from 2024, a discount on VR train tickets has been added. So if you’re travelling often, the student card will pay for itself quickly! You can access your mobile student card via the Tuudo app.
Dissertation researchers can get a membership at a reduced price of €40. You can join and pay a membership fee for six months at a time for €20.
The Doctoral Researchers’ Section (DRS) brings together doctoral researchers to discuss current issues of interest to doctoral researchers, network with other researchers and organise joint activities according to their interests and resources. The Section also actively lobbies University of Oulu Graduate School on behalf of doctoral researchers. You can follow the latest news from the DRS for example on Instagram at @drsoulu.
As a member of the Student Union, you can also apply to become a halloped, or student representative for administration. As a halloped, you can influence education in your field or issues common to all students and doctoral researchers. There are opportunities to make an impact, for example on Doctoral Training Committees, the Research Council and the UniOGS Management Group. Dissertation researchers can also apply for most of the university’s joint halloped positions. See the open positions here, and apply on 5 May at the latest!
