Haapala and Huotari to Lead OYY in 2026
Veera Huotari elected as Chair of the Student Council, Jonne Haapala to serve as Chair of the Board next year
The Student Council of the Student Union of the University of Oulu elected the Council Presidium and the Board members for 2026 in its last meeting of the year on 9 December 2025. The Chair of the Board was already elected in the previous meeting on 25 November 2025.
Veera Huotari, a fifth-year student of Educational Psychology, was elected as Chair of the Student Council. “I look forward to working together with the Council and the Board,” Huotari says. She served as Vice Chair of the Student Council in 2025 and has previously held various positions in her subject society Motiva and in the umbrella guild Kaski. Ellinoora Harvio, a Mathematics student, was elected as Vice Chair of the Student Council.
In 2026, the Chair of the Board will be Jonne Haapala, a student of Health Sciences. During 2025, Haapala served as Second Vice Chair of the Board and was responsible for academic affairs. “I am truly grateful for the trust placed in me and excited to steer the Student Union into the next year,” Haapala comments.
The elected Board members are Luna Pösö, Anna Tiira, Sana Dehganpour, Saara Pesonen, Elli Myllymäki, Miikka Lukkaroinen and Tomi Luukkonen. There was a vote for all of the positions: Board Members and Chair and Vice Chair of the Council.
The Board will convene in January to elect its Vice Chairs and allocate responsibilities.
