Jonne Haapala elected Chair of the OYY Board!
Other Board members will be elected at the next meeting on 9 December. Applications are still open!
Jonne Haapala, a Health Sciences student, has been elected Chair of the Board of the Student Union of the University of Oulu (OYY) for the year 2026. The election was made by the Student Council at its meeting on 25 November. The meeting was the first for the new Student Council following the Student Council elections held in early November. Haapala was unanimously elected for the post.
Haapala, 27, is studying Health Sciences and is at the Master’s stage of his studies. Previously, he has served, among other roles, as the Chair of his own Subject Society. Throughout 2025 he has worked as the Second Vice Chair of the OYY Board, being responsible for education policy. “I am truly grateful for the trust placed in me, and I am excited to start steering the Student Union towards the next year,” Haapala expresses.
The OYY Student Council approved a new strategy for the years 2026–2030 in the autumn, and its implementation will commence right at the beginning of the year. “It will be genuinely interesting to get to consider, for example, promoting the accessibility of OYY’s services and activities during the coming year,” Haapala reflects.
The other Board members and the Chair and Vice Chair of the Student Council will be elected at the Student Council’s next meeting. Any member of the Student Union can apply to become a Board member, and the application period is open until 2 December. Those selected for the Chair and Vice Chair of the Student Council must be full members of the Student Council.
