Open call for the University Collegium and the Board of Examiners for the remaining year of 2025

The Student Union is looking for new student representatives for The University Collegium and the University Board of Examiners. The term lasts until the end of year 2025 giving you as a student the chance to easily get involved in the university’s administrative duties.

The University Collegium of the University of Oulu is, alongside the board, our university’s most influential body. The jurisdiction and assembly of the University Collegium governed by public law is regulated in the Finnish Universities Act. The collegium is responsible, for example, for making decisions pertaining to the board’s number of members and confirming the selection of new members, as well as confirming financial statements and annual reports. In addition, the collegium releases the board from liability and relieves board members from their duty.

The remit of the university collegium is to
(1) decide on the number of members on the board and the duration of the term of office of the board and its members;
(2) elect the members referred to in the University Act section 5 (4) to the board;
(3) confirm the election of board members by the university community groups;
(4) dismiss board members by proposal of the board;
(5) select the financial auditors of the university;
(6) confirm the financial statement and the annual report of the university and discharge board members and rectors from liability;
(7) decide on the bringing of an action for damages against a board member, rector or financial auditor
(8) to decide on the dismissal of a board member from their duties in accordance with section 65, subsection 3 of the Universities Act.

For the Collegium we are currently looking for one member and four vice members for the rest of the year 2025.

The Board of Examiners is a legal University organ that handles student admission, study credits, tuition fees and rectifications of accreditation of studies taken elsewhere. Rectifications are handled according to the University of Oulu Regulations 24§ and 27§ as well as 82§ of the Universities Act. Measures for rectification are also outlined in the Administrative Procedure Act. Acting in the Board of Examiners requires some knowledge of measures for rectification and students’ due process. OYY’s academic affairs specialist trains the student representatives for their task and supports their actions. The organ also includes professors and other teaching staff. The Board of Examiners meets when necessary, as rectification requests must be handled within a fair time frame. The meetings tend to be more focused in the fall due to admissions rectification requests.

For the position we are looking for one vice member for the rest of the year 2025.

Student members are paid a fee of 41.20 euros per meeting for both the University Collegium and the University Board of Examiners meetings, provided that the member is not part of the university staff.
