The Student Union of the University of Oulu is looking for a research intern - apply by 19 March!

The topic of the research will be the support students need and preventing dropping out of studies. The internship is paid and will be carried out in the Autumn semester 2023.

The Student Union of the University of Oulu is a public law association of approximately 12 000 students. OYY is an advocacy, education and service organization for its members, and currently employs nine staff. The University of Oulu is an international and multidisciplinary environment with students from over 90 countries.

As a research intern, you will be able to conduct research on the support needs of students. The focus of the research would be preventing drop-outs from the perspective of the different forms of study support offered by the university (e.g. tutoring, educational psychology and other forms of study guidance). The exact scope of research and the way in which it will be carried out will be agreed with the trainee.

We require you to have previous higher education studies and have excellent proficiency in Finnish or English. Previous research experience is considered an advantage. However, the most important thing is that you are self-motivated, enthusiastic and interested in learning and developing yourself.

We offer you a nice working environment and the opportunity to develop your professional skills. You will get to do hands-on research in an engaging environment, with feedback and personal guidance. Your work will include designing and implementing the data collection and analyzing the results of your research. The traineeship is well suited for a Master’s thesis, for example.

The duration of the internship is 2.5 months. The internship will take place in the autumn and will be arranged separately with the person appointed for the assignment. The intern will work an average of 30 hours per week, with the principal place of work being the Student Union office in Linnanmaa. The total salary for the internship will be €2,662 for the whole period, payable in two instalments (€1,331 per instalment). Please note that to be eligible for a internship, you must have access to a traineeship grant from the university.

Applications and CVs should be sent in PDF format via email to hakemukset@oyy.fi. Applications must be received by 23.59 on Sunday, 19 March 2023, at the latest, with the words ’research intern’ in the subject line. Late applications will not be considered. Some candidates will be invited for interviews after the closing date. Those selected for an interview will be notified of the interview date within one week of the closing date.
