Themes of the Advocacy Section in September: Sustainable Campus Life and Student Influence – with a dedicated session for first-year students!

How is the university reducing its carbon footprint, and is it possible to live a sustainable campus life in Oulu? These are some of the questions we’ll explore at the Advocacy section on Thursday, 25 September!

The Advocacy section is open to all members of OYY. It’s a space for discussing issues that matter to students, both within the university and beyond. The September session is part of the Sustainable Development Week programme, and it begins with a joint opening focused on sustainability at the university. After the shared part, we’ll split into groups – and this time, first-year students have their own group where we’ll talk about the first steps in student advocacy!

In addition to sustainability, the committee will discuss topics such as student restaurants, the development of education, and the employment of international students. In the session tailored for first-year students, we’ll hear how to begin your own path in student advocacy and explore the different opportunities available within the university, the student union, and student societies.

The Advocacy section will be held at Tellus on the Linnanmaa campus. We’ll start with coffee and snacks at Frost Club at 16:30, and the main programme begins at Tellus Backstage at 17:00.

Registration helps us plan catering and possible interpretation services. If needed, the joint opening is interpreted to English, and one of the group discussions is always in English. This time we’ll also offer interpretation for the first-year group discussion if needed. Don’t forget to sign up by 18 September!
