OYY’s Badge of Honour for Miriam Putula-Vasari, award of the Coolest Teacher for Heli Maijanen
OYY presented awards at the 66th Annos Annual Ball on 28 February
The Student Union of University of Oulu (OYY) has awarded Miriam Putula-Vasari with the Badge of Honour in gratitude of the distinguished work she has done for the goals of the Student Union. Putula-Vasari acted as OYY’s Chair of the Board in 2019. In addition to the role of the Chair, she was a member of the Student Council in 2017-2022, of which she was the Vice Chair of the Student Council in 2018. Her most influencial position as a student representative of the administration was the membership of the University Board for the term 2022-2023. Besides these roles she has represented students e.g. in the University Collegium, in her own faculty’s organs and was active in her subject society Communica. In all of these roles, she demonstrated unbiased and courageus ability to make reforms. “Miriam has always been an important alumna, who has been ready to give support and advice every time it has been needed”, commented OYY’s Chair of the Board Jonne Haapala.
The award of the Coolest Teacher was given this year to bioacheology teacher Heli Maijanen. In the students’ feedback she was praised for interesting courses, where she takes students’ feedback into account. Maijanen’s courses have clear learning objectives and the materials and lectures support reaching them. Besides teaching, Maijanen acts as a tutor teacher and supervises thesis work. As a supervisor, she is according to the students supporting and easy to approach, and gives multifaceted and constructive feedback. The award is given by the Board of OYY based on the nominations from the students.
In addition to the Badge of Honour and the award for the Coolest Teacher, OYY has awarded active students medals in gratitude for their work. The third class medals were awarded during the anniversary week in both campuses, and second and first class medals were awarded at the annual ball on Saturday 28 February. First class medals were awarded to Vilma Sippola and Karoliina Kokko-Tollola. The honorary academic decorations are awarded by OYY’s Board based on the proposition made by the honorary working group.
