Student Union of the University of Oulu is a public corporation which consists of 12 000 students. University community is an international and interdisciplinary environment which has students from over 90 countries. OYY works as an advocacy, training and service organisation which currently employs nine employees. 

Our Student Union is looking for a community specialist from 2nd of January to a fixed term which ends 31st of December 2024. The actual start date can vary according to the contract made. The position is funded by a collaboration project, which is why the term is fixed.

Your tasks include advising societies, advocacy and training, communication to societies, society grants, coordinating the society sector and stakeholder collaboration. As a community specialist you work as an advocate for international students and participate in international projects regarding the university community. 

You get to develop our university students’ study experience by creating an open and active discussion culture between all the stakeholders in our higher education environment. You will also plan the digital welcome package for our future university students.

We expect you to have made studies in an institution of higher education, a vision of a good student life, understanding student culture and the international environment of the university. As a community specialist, you must have excellent Finnish and English language proficiency. You will need to use English almost daily. In addition we expect you to have good communication, organisational capabilities and current communication technology skills. 

Also experience in Student Union activities, acting as a student representative in a university environment, experience in making grant applications or handling them, training volunteers and familiarity in student society activities will be taken into consideration.

There will be a 4-month trial period included. The starting salary is EUR 2.150 for a month (pay grade III of the collective agreement for student union employees) and in the final calculations of one salary the possible experience and education additions will be included to the starting salary. In the employment contract we will follow the collective agreement for student union employees. The weekly working time is 37,5 hours. Occasionally the work includes working in the evening.
