A student representative is the voice of students in decision making. There are student reps in the University’s governance ranging from the Board of Directors to Degree Programme Committees.

What is halloped?

In the University of Oulu students are represented by student representatives. They are also called hallopeds (from Finnish ”hallinnon opiskelijaedustaja”, which translates to student representative). A student representative is the voice of students in decision making. There are more than a hundred student representatives in the University of Oulu. They have in the University’s governance ranging from the Board of Directors to Degree Programme Committees.

Student representatives are chosen for a term that lasts for two years, the current term is 2026-2027. The selection will be based on the current composition of the body and the Act on Equality between Women and Men (the applicant’s gender), the applicant’s degree programme, motivation for the position, and previous experience in similar roles. Resignation from a halloped position is possible in the middle of a term, for example when graduating or in case of other changes in life situation.

University pays a meeting fee for students (those who are not in employment relationship) for the meetings of the following institutions: Collegium, Board of Examiners, Education Management Group, Graduate School Management Group, Education Council, Faculty Board, Faculty Management Group, Faculty Education Committee, University Equality and Diversity Committee. The fee is 44,50 € per meeting. The fees for student members are invoiced for each institution at one time after the last meeting of the academic term.
