Student Representatives of the administration

A student representative is the voice of students in decision making. There are student reps in the University’s governance ranging from the Board of Directors to Degree Programme Committees.

Equality, diversity and ethics

Equality and Diversity Committee

The Equality and Diversity Committee is responsible for the equality and diversity work at the University of Oulu. The committee gathers and transmits information about equality and diversity issues and arranges training and events. The committee also prepares the equality and diversity plan of the University of Oulu and superintends that the plan follows through. The committee consists of students as well as staff members. It holds meetings a few times a semester and operates mainly in English.
OYY’s Specialist in Social Affairs is a member of the committee and supports the representatives in their task. Participation in the working group is voluntary work and does not award the participants study credits.

Equality and Diversity Working Groups

There are three working groups that are appointed to manage issues pertaining to equality and diversity at the University of Oulu. Their tasks are to inform students and staff as well as the Equality and Diversity Committee about matters pertaining to equality and diversity, participating in designing the university’s equality and diversity plan and supervising the implementation of the plan in their faculties.

Participation in the working group is voluntary work and does not award the participants study credits.

The Ethics Working Group

The Ethics Working Group of the University of Oulu evokes discussion about ethical values and suggests ways of making those values visible. The Working Group also participates in the discussion of ethical education, supports faculties in establishing ethics committees and supports their operation, as well as organises and participates in events and meetings where ethical matters are discussed at a University level as well as on a national level. Additionally, the working group may assume special tasks during terms.
